A panel of acclaimed translators reflect on the joys of literary translation and the challenges — from convincing publishers to commit, to finding readers and the threat of AI.
Featuring the winner of the 2025 Translation Prize in the NSW Literary Awards Elizabeth Bryer; award judge, fellow translator and previous winner Tiffany Tsao; and shortlisted translator Stephanie Smee, author of the feature essay in the Spring issue of the Library's Openbook magazine, and recipient of the 2024 Australian Academy of the Humanities Medal for Excellence in Translation. Hosted by editor of Openbook magazine and lover of great literary translations, Phillipa McGuinness, this event shines a light on the skilled and often underappreciated work of translators.
