Library Bar

The Library Bar microsite.

Tired of endless scrolling for the next must-watch, must-read, or must-listen? Let a panel of Australia’s sharpest cultural critics save you time by sharing their expert picks on what truly deserves your attention in 2026.

Kick off the year at the Library Bar with host Jared Richards and fellow critics Melanie Kembrey, Sara Khan and Ify Obiegbu as they survey the cultural landscape ahead — from highly anticipated local releases in literature, film and music, to the hidden gems and emerging talents you won’t want to miss.

Join us for a relaxed evening at the Library Bar, where three artists — whose work is either currently on display or part of the Library’s permanent collection — share the joys and challenges of their creative lives.

Bring along your own craft project and settle in for an evening of making and conversation with a line-up of extraordinarily talented creatives.

Please note: The Library Bar will be open from 5pm ahead of the event.

After a sold-out first run last November, join us for The Songs of Sydney — a springtime celebration of the sounds of our city.

Musicians perform one song of their own and their favourite local song of all time on the Library Bar’s grand piano, set against the stunning Sydney skyline.

Featuring FRIDAY*, Grasps, Kobie Dee, Mi-kaisha, Odette and Sally Seltmann.

Join us for a special Sydney Writers’ Festival Trivia in The Library Bar. Test your bookish smarts on literary conundrums, writers' festival facts and general knowledge, along with facts about the Library's collections and exhibitions. Prizes include bookshop and bar vouchers, as well as copies of the Library’s magazine, Openbook. Book your table now

This event is presented in partnership with Sydney Writers’ Festival.

Fresh Takes is a seasonal showcase of some of the best new pieces of publishing, featuring writers reading from their new works and reflecting on the writers and creators who have shaped them. Please note: The Library Bar will be open from 5 pm ahead of the event.
